Iberian Lynx, Spain
The Iberian lynx has a tawny coat with dark spots, long legs, a short tail, and tufts of hair at the end of its ears that is characteristic of lynx species. It has a distinctive 'beard' around its face and weighs roughly half the size of the largest lynx species: the Eurasian lynx. Iberian lynx males weigh, approximately, 13kg and females 10kg.The Iberian lynx is one of the most endangered species on the Iberian peninsula, with numbers decreasing rapidly over the past decade, leading the EU to fund a special program to help secure the species’ future.
With wild population numbers of less than 100 in 2002 there were fewer Iberian lynx’s in the wild than there are Snow Leopards or Sumatran Tigers, and only the Amur Leopard (with a population of less than 50 in the wild) suffers a fate worse than the Iberian lynx.
It was reclassified from ‘Critically Endangered’ to ‘Endangered’ in 2015.
The reclassification followed the success of conservation efforts and reintroductions into the wild. While at the turn of the millennium the animal seemed doomed to fate, the ongoing efforts to preserve the species have seen numbers boosted above the 1,000 benchmark which marks the passage from critically endangered to endangered.
Conservation efforts are ongoing.

Patrick Fox Cottage
This is the family home of Patrick Fox, a 3rd class passenger who died onboard the Titanic, on his way back to America where he had previously emigrated too.
During an extended trip home, Patrick’s mother died from a heart attack. In the aftermath of his mother's death, Patrick was planning on leaving his new life in America and move back home to look after his siblings and senile father. Sadly he never made it home. His body has either never been recovered or not been identified.
Between 1911 and 1913, Patrick and both his parents died, leaving Patrick's eight siblings.
Iberian Lynx, Spain
My 3rd attempt in 3 years trying to find the Iberian Lynx. Studying animal behaviours before you go and picking the right time of the year is crucial. They are more visible and vocal during the mating season in January/ February. They were on the brink of extinction in 2002 with less than 100 left in Spain and none recorded in Portugal. A story of Hope where Countries unite to reverse and prevent species, habitat loss and climate change. This is a beautiful Feline medium sized wild cat with its spotted coat and tufted ears really enthralled me to try once again to photograph and aid in the conservation effort.

Sibu
Sibu, everybody’s favourite Dublin red-head and one of the biggest characters in Dublin zoo passed away this week at the age of 45. He was a Bornean orangutan who arrived in Dublin 40 years ago. Bornean orangutans share 97% of their DNA with humans and are a critically endangered species whose existence is threatened by deforestation, palm oil plantations and hunting.

Inside the Oculus
Taken on a Galaxy A52 mobile phone. The Oculus is Latin for Eyelid. This aesthetic transportation hub not only welcomes those visiting the World Trade Center but serves as a representation of New York City’s strength and resilience after 9/11. Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the Oculus resembles a dove, leaving a child’s hands. Every year, on the anniversary of the attacks, the sun shines directly through the skylight and illuminates the main hall.

Jay in Light
Probably one of the most colourful and striking birds breeding in Ireland. About the same size as a Jackdaw, with ages and sexes similar in appearance. The body is pale brown, with some dark streaking on the crown. A black stripe extends from the base of the bill to the neck. The throat is white. In flight, shows large patches of blue and white on the otherwise black wings

African Elephant
African elephants are keystone species, meaning they play a critical role in their ecosystem. Also known as “ecosystem engineers,” elephants shape their habitat in many ways. During the dry season, they use their tusks to dig up dry riverbeds and create watering holes many animals can drink from. Their dung is full of seeds, helping plants spread across the environment—and it makes pretty good habitat for dung beetles too. In the forest, their feasting on trees and shrubs creates pathways for smaller animals to move through, and in the savanna, they uproot trees and eat saplings, which helps keep the landscape open for zebras and other plains animals to thrive.

Pied Kingfisher
The distinctive hunting technique of pied kingfishers has earned the species a few records. Not only are they the largest hovering bird, but they are also the only kingfishers with the ability to perform a figure of eight wing stroke.
