This Monday 18th June Iñaki Hernández-Lasa will judge the 3rd Competition for 2018.

We look forward to seeing some great images. This is our last meeting before the Summer BBQ on the 25th June and our Summer Break.

The Summer BBQ is open to all members and the cost of food is covered by the club. You, unfortunately, will need to buy your own drink.

If you have any special dietary needs please contact George Balmer (treasurer@offshoot.ie) before next Thursday and we will try to meet these needs.

The BBQ is at the Royal St. George Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire this year. Full details of the event are here.

OffShoot 2018 Member's Exhibition (8th May - 18th June)
Please remember to collect your images from Tony and David in the car park before the meeting. If you cannot make the meeting please arrange for someone else to collect them on your behalf as we do not have another meeting before September and they may be used as BBQ wood before then!

‘An Irish Summer’ – Although this competition is in September we may be in the middle of summer, who knows. Lots of opportunities in July and August to capture the essence of an Irish summer. Monochrome makes for more drama.

Born in the wilds of Clare, from a young age Daycent Exposure, sometimes known as Leanne Walsh, has looked at the world through cartoon eyes. As a child, her dad was never without a camera in hand. Following him through forests, up hills and underwater, watching him put himself in precarious positions to capture something only he could see, instilled in Leanne a great curiosity and interest in taking photos. Slide projectors were her first glimpse of the joy of the still moment and, although technology has moved on, she is still following her dad into forests and up some pretty steep hills. For Leanne, photography is fun, freeing and captures moments she would have since forgotten or reimagined.

This exhibition is a selection of my favourite images from my travels in and outside of Ireland over the last 5yrs. I have no interest in adding to the lofty intellectual waffle that sometimes surrounds art and photography. There is no grand overarching theme to the exhibition. I chose these particular photographs because the subjects simply captured my attention and fired my imagination. I love to take pictures. I hope you enjoy.

Photo Quiz Answer
B. FALSE

When placing a light source closer to the subject, you will always soften the light. The closer, the softer. The further the harder.
