This coming Monday we’ll have feedback from the third round of the project for this session. Kyle Tunney will give a review of your three pictures in your project to date.

National Shield Entries Needed

We Need Your Entries. At the time of writing (Friday evening) we only have entries from 15 members.  We are in real danger of not been able to submit an entry for this competition. Final entry date extended to midday Tuesday 23rd of October. (AIPF or higher cannot enter, everyone else eligable).

Please forward your best mono and colour images to this link below. A maximum of 5 colour and 5 mono is allowed per entrant. The images should be in jpg format, with approx. 2000 pixels on the long side and named as follows:

999-PictureTitle.jpg    Replace 999 with your membership number.  Please do not use your own name, as the selection committee needs to review the images anonymously.

(Please, please, please rename your images as per this format. Not doing so adds massively to the administration of our entry)

We will later seek full resolution images for the shortlisted entries selected to represent the club.

Images can be uploaded at the link https://www.dropbox.com/request/ZmexnOQknwPcwujTtwiv (the photographer retains full copyright).

Competition

Don’t forget the theme of the next competition is Autumn Colours. So a good time to get out over the next few weeks and capture those colours as they develop.

19 November is the date you hand your entry for the next OffShoot competition. I know it seems a long way away but the theme for level 1 and level 2 is ‘Autumn colours’ and you should be out there right now getting your photographs. If you are level 3 you should start mulling over your ‘selects’. Not to over complicate things there is no mono competition for level 1 and level 2, but you can put up to 2 images into the colour competition.

Steve has asked that those who want him to print their images send them to him by the 12 November as he will be under severe pressure fulfilling orders for later in the year.

The judge for this competition will be Gerry Andrews. His work can be seen at www.gerryandrews.com. Judging will be on 26 November.

It’s nearly here! Final preparations are being made. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on either day or better still - both days!
We have a full programme. There are entries in all categories in the National Championships - Novice, Intermediate, Club & Advanced representing several clubs/societies. All national entries will be commented on. In the Open Photo Harmony competition, there are entries from 3 continents - we’ll have to work on the rest - America, Asia & Antarctica! So, a great chance to see the different styles in this medium of audiovisual. There will be also assessments for distinctions in Audio Visual and an opportunity to see some of the judges’ work.

Further details were posted by Liam Haines on the OffShoot Facebook group page.

The Lost Moment: Civil Rights, Street Protest and Resistance in Northern Ireland, 1968-69

Symposium and Official Launch at the Gallery of Photography: Thursday 27 September

Running until 4th November, The Lost Moment looks anew at the Civil Rights movement in Northern Ireland fifty years on from the marches and peaceful protests that immediately preceded the Troubles.

Curated by Sean O’Hagan, who writes on photography, art and culture for The Guardian and The Observer, the show places the Northern Irish civil rights struggle in the context of the many international street protests that made 1968 such a tumultuous year.
