This Monday’s meeting is a practical night …

Practical Night

We will be hosting a number of stations where some of the members will be giving 30 min slots on their subjects. The objective is that you attend 2 or 3 of the sessions during the evening.

The stations are:
STATION 1 – John Wiles: Introduction to Lightroom (LR)
STATION 2 – Robbie O’Leary: Introduction to Camera Raw (CR) and Photoshop (PS)
STATION 3 – Joe Tulie: Using Silver EFFEX PRO to add detail, contrast and texture to skies, without affecting other parts of the photo.
STATION 4 – Matt O’Brien: ‘Dodge and Burn’ in Lightroom & Photoshop
STATION 5 – Liam Haines: Blurring the background & using the Lasso tool to remove an unwanted area in an image and fill with ‘Content Aware’
STATION 6 – Mike Smith: Correcting an overexposed racing image in Lightroom & Photoshop

There is also a ‘help desk’ at the back of the room where any member may ask our experts for assistance or information about any topic relating to photography.
The experts are:
Helen Black – member and coordinator of ‘Shoot with Me’
Steve Crozier – member and owns 360dpi and expert photographer.

Monday is also your final date to get images to Steve at http://360-dpi.com/image-uploads/ if you want him to print the image for you for the next competition.

Competition

The 19th November is the date you hand your entry for the next OffShoot competition. I know it seems a long way away but the theme for level 1 and level 2 is ‘Autumn colours’ and you should be out there right now getting your photographs. If you are level 3 you should start mulling over your ‘selects’. Not to over complicate things, there is no mono competition for level 1 and level 2, but you can put up to 2 images into the colour competition.

Steve has asked that those who want him to print their images send them to him by the 12th November as he will be under severe pressure fulfilling orders for later in the year.

The judge for this competition will be Gerry Andrews. His work can be seen at www.gerryandrews.com. Judging will be on 26th November.

AGM & 2019 Committee

Just a reminder that due to the new constitution adopted at the beginning of 2018 that the AGM now takes place in December. This year the AGM is scheduled for 3rd December 2018. We will be sending out an official notice of this and an agenda shortly.

It is normal at the AGM that we appoint the members of the 2019 committee. The details of the elected members required can be found in the constitution linked to above.

We encourage members to become involved in the committee and would suggest that even if you don't want to be the main committee member that you join one of the subcommittees like IPF, Outings, Competition, Door or New Members.

If you're interested in helping or joining the committee please either email secretary@offshoot.ie or speak to Ian (Chair) or Russell (Secretary) at the next meeting.

Exhibitions & Events
Dublin Salt (Peter Gordon) exhibition

Dublin Salt has been a three-year journey through the capital’s salty perimeters by local photographic artist Peter Gordon. Despite travelling the world with his landscape photography, Peter has felt most inspired in his own backyard, Dublin Bay. From Skerries to Shankill and everything in between he searched for the perfect light, just the right tide, unique conditions, in an attempt to make a landmark collection of Dublin landscapes. Images will be printed up to 1.5 metres so it should be an occasion not to be missed.

At Studio 10 Dublin, 10 Wicklow Street, Dublin 2. From 8th November until 19th November. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sunday from 11am to 4pm.

Canon & Harvey Norman Photography Evening (Tallaght)

Canon and Harvey Norman are delighted to invite you to a Photography Evening in the Harvey Norman store in Tallaght on Tuesday 13th November.

Join professional photographer David Newton as he takes you through his body of work and shows you how to get the best out of your camera kit. You’ll have the chance to test out and try cameras, lenses, printers and all things photography related.
Photo Quiz Answer
C. Shutter Speed. The one exception here would be IF you had AUTO ISO set. If that was the case, the ISO will change when exposure COMP is changed. (https://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-use-exposure-compensation-to-take-control-of-your-exposure/)
