Going Forward

Thanks to all who provided feedback on how we might co-ordinate activities during this difficult time.  We will try a few different things.  We are very much aware that peoples circumstances may vary. While some will welcome an opportunity to be creative or work on some personal projects, we also respect the scenario where others will want to put this stuff on hold for a while.

Weekly Theme.

We will announce a weekly Theme. Themes will be selected which can be attempted indoors or outside. This is not a competition. The idea is to try and capture images related to the theme and post it to our normal Flickr Group. These exercises are good for getting us to use our cameras and our minds,  and to look for unusual compositions or situations related to the theme.  Remember this is not a competition, there are no judges, no-one checking for over sharpening or rules of thirds.  We are looking for variety and expression.

We will start a new Theme every Monday morning. Each Theme will have a short "Title".  Members do not have to enter every week.  The only condition is that you enter the Theme "Title" at the very beginning of the title description field when uploading to Flickr, so we can recognised 'Themed' images.

This is a fun task, not to be taken seriously.  Normal Flickr rules apply. It will be interesting to see the variety of images that we can create and how we can inspire each other.

The first theme will be titled "Colours".   The objective is to capture images with a combination of colours. The more outlandish the combination or the objects captured the better. Enjoy.

Digital Competition

We will try an experiment to conduct a competition based on submitting images digitally, having them judged by an external judge and posting the results on our website. We will try and figure out a way to incorporate judges feedback. The details of this still need to be worked out. The intention is to provide members 4 weeks to create and submit an image and have the results available approx a week later.

David Sisk will circulate details including a theme , the url to submit images and the deadline.  Details on how we announce the results and present feedback will come later.

Virtual Meetings / Presentations

We will dip our toes into this arena, starting very small and build with experience and accumulated skills.  Further details to follow.

Annual Exhibition

Tony Jobling has been working very hard behind the scenes in relation to the exhibition.  We are pleased to confirm that agreement has been reached with the library to defer the exhibition until the autumn.

This means that you can continue to work on your exhibition images and submit them to this link when you are ready.

https://www.dropbox.com/request/9bNDicu71JFLXL1W4eHx

Please be assured that we will not print or frame the images until we are comfortable that the exhibition will proceed and people can fully enjoy such an event.

Tony will circulate a note with more specific details in due course.

If you have any further queries, please contact Dave or Tony.

Shoot With Me (SWM)

The Shoot With Me is only suspended from a group or club perspective, but individuals are completely free to progress their own projects at a time and pace that suits them. We will republish dates for the SWM when that is possible.

Summary

We wish to emphasise that all of the activities are all optional. The basic idea is to have a few things to focus on to maintain your hobby, continue to develop your skills, familiarity with your equipment. It is an opportunity to experiment and share with others the fruits of your labours.

Furthermore, we can look forward to the eventual demise of this pandemic, knowing that we have an Exhibition and Shoot With Me lined up and ready to go. We can use both to celebrate the return to more normal times.

Club Competitions

Competitions are currently on temporary hold.  The current suspended competition will be the first competition held with a printed component when normal competitions resume, so all work in progress or prints can be used for this competition.  Watch out for interim arrangements as we figure out how best to cater for the current exceptional circumstances.

If you have any specific queries please send them to competitions@offshoot.ie.

We will announce shortly a special digital competition while normal club activities are suspended.
