OffShoot Photography Society We believe that the image is everything!

13th February 2021

News

I’m sure that those who joined last Monday really enjoyed Suzanne Behan’s presentation of old photographs of Dublin taken by her grandfather – some great memories in there!

Next Monday evening we turn to Macro Photography with a presentation by Andrea Hunt. Do join the Zoom call for an interesting session on this fascinating subject!

Chat Moderators

We owe a debt of gratitude for the continuing support of our Chat Moderators, Marie, Noreen and Richard, without whom our Zoom meetings would not function as well as they do. Thank you all.

2021 Annual Subscription Now Due

This week you would have received a personal email either thanking you for your subscription or personally reminding you that the annual subscription of €50 for renewing members is now due.

Please ensure that you pay by 28th February 2021. Payment can be made by PayPal at https://www.offshoot.ie/subs or bank transfer. Details of the OffShoot BIC and IBAN are in the reminder sent. (Check your Junk Email Folder if you did not get an email.)

Please email treasurer@offshoot.ie if you did not get a reminder or have any questions or issues paying. If you do not wish to renew your membership please let us know and we will stop sending you the emails.

Shoot With Me (SWM)

Our SWM Spring programme has now started with our 12 groups setting about their varied projects.

Many thanks are due to our Group Leaders for stepping up to the task in these challenging times and for their varies selection of themes. Booking was fast and furious with most members getting their first or second choices and very few disappointments. Thank you for getting involved as SWM would be nothing without our member's participation.

It looks like we can expect a spectacular Showcase on 10 May when we will all enjoy the fruits of your work.

Groups might well experience difficulty in meeting up at all prior to the Showcase – we live in hope! All involved in the SWM programme should observe all public health recommendations during these trying times.

We wish each of you involved an enjoyable experience exploring together (virtually or otherwise) your chosen photographic themes and we look forward to sharing your stories, images etc in May.

George & Emily

Any queries please contact George & Emily at swm@offshoot.ie.

Learn With Me (LWM)

Thank you to all members who responded to the recent questionnaire. There really is much food for thought in the responses and your committee will be considering the feedback carefully over the coming weeks.

We are having our first LWM workshop on Wednesday 24th February at 7.30 pm on Zoom and the subject chose is Focus Stacking. The number of participants is limited to 8 – and it has already been fully booked. A second session has now been added for Friday 05 March to accommodate the demand.

The format of the programme is that there will be a workshop; a PDF file of the presentation will be sent to each participant as well as a file of images which we will focus stack together.

What do we all look like?

Having all gone virtual we miss the personal interaction and sometimes it’s difficult to fit a face to a name? We are exploring how we can expand the website to solve this. Watch this space we haven't forgotten.

Accessing Video Recordings of Meetings

Last week's video of Suzanne Behan '50 Francis Street Photographer' is now up to access from the website.

You can access this and other recordings of past Zoom meetings in the Videos section of the Member's Area at https://www.offshoot.ie/member-area/. You will need to login to the website to see the content of this section of the site.

Every member has a login to the site. If you don't remember your login details go to https://www.offshoot.ie/login/ and select the 'Forgot your password?' link. Enter the email address you received this newsletter with and reset your password. Once you've reset your password you can log in and catch-up on speakers you missed. Happy catching up!

This Weekly's Flickr Project: Reflections

Reflection photography is any photography that includes a reflection. Use any reflective surface you can find! Water is a very common one, as are mirrors, but you can also go for cars, shiny building facades, and windows. Less obvious surfaces include spoons, marble surfaces, sunglasses, eyes, wet concrete, in fact, any shiny surface. Don’t be afraid to get creative! A polarising filter can help to increase (or remove) reflections and boost their saturation.
