News

The last days of September heralded the onset of Autumn; the weather became more seasonal and the trees started to change to Autumnal orange. Autumn is that magic time of year with mists and colour and trees bearing their special fruits for wildlife and humans alike. It is a wondrous time to be a photographer surrounded by this bounty so keep the camera charged and ready. We all look forward to seeing your images.

Last Week

Tina Claffey took us for a fascinating tour of Ireland’s bogs, wetlands and eskers with some fabulous images of their unique flora and fauna. Her talent extends not only to the photographing of such tiny creatures but also to the ability to verbalise and write about the environment in which they live with such enthusiasm.

Next Monday

We will have another visual presentation by Fil Nenna who will talk to us about Portraits and Headshots. Fil grew up in England and has lived on all three U.S coasts settling in Marblehead, just north of Boston. His philosophy that a picture must capture your personality as well as a hint of your hobbies and work is something which interests us all.

So, join us on Monday to be entertained and educated.

2023 Photo Challenge

This initiative has captivated in excess of 15 members. If you didn’t send your images to Gerry Donovan, you have just missed the boat as the final date was 2nd October.

Exhibition Books

There are still some books available and if you didn’t avail of the offer now is your chance to get a copy of members’ images from our successful exhibition in the library in Dun Laoghaire. Could be a nice Christmas present so hurry before stocks run out.

Uncollected Prints & Exhibition Images

This is your last call. If there is no response, we will have to destroy your image(s) as space is now at a premium.

Congratulations

Our congratulations go to Taryn Barling on achieving an Associateship from the IPF for her panel. It is so nice to see members achieve an accreditation in any aspect of their work and distinctions from the IPF are part of our journey in the photographic art.

Outings

The Outings Committee deserves all our thanks for their valiant efforts in keeping us entertained. What better way is there to meet other members, enjoy a bit of craic and even take some photographs. So, join in the fun and games which they strive so hard to provide for you.

What's On

Here are the next scheduled meetings and events for the Society:

Club Competitions

Next Club Competition

The next Club Competition is on the theme of Street Photography.

This is difficult to define but in essence it is candid photography taken through the filter of the interests of the photographer. It can be done anywhere and does not have to include people. So you can have a wide interpretation of the theme.

For all levels, to encourage continuous improvement and to get members out taking photos, entries should have been taken within the last year.

As usual please save your images in JPEG format and name them with your Level Number, Membership Number and Image Title as follows:

L2-001-Image Title.jpg

Each member may submit up to two images in this competition.

This is a projected competition so images will need to be uploaded by Monday, 13th November using the link  https://www.dropbox.com/request/dZafi3deqmtVPXguBedc. The judging will be held on Monday, 20th November.
