Next Monday – Welcome Back to Club Meetings
Next Monday, 08 September, we return to our regular Monday evening meetings at St Brigid’s National School. We have a very interesting and informative programme lined up for this session:
- Robbie O’Leary will take us through the excellent presentation of members’ images that he showed at the DLR Lexicon during the summer
- Steve Crozier will outline the club programme from now until year-end
- Eithne O’Leary will show the programme that the Outings Group have planned for the Autumn
- Bob Acton will present an outline of his plans for the very popular Shoot With Me activities starting shortly
So come along and enjoy meeting fellow members and, no doubt, sharing some anecdotes from the summer experiences.
Shoot With Me (SWM) – Call for Leaders
As the summer comes to an end, it is time to start planning for the Autumn Shoot with Me (SWM).
For those who are new to the club:
Shoot With Me is a project-based activity which the club puts together twice a year.
The principal idea is that around 12 club members 'volunteer' to facilitate a small group of other club members in a chosen photographic project.
The essence of SWM is twofold:
1. It gives members an opportunity to meet and socialise with other members while taking part in a photographic project, and
2. It gives members a chance to practice/explore/develop or learn about some aspect of photography.
To bring your new found skills to fruition, everyone gets to present two of their images at a Showcase in December.
Call for Leaders:
As ever, the success of SWM relies on getting 12 volunteer leaders. If you would like to volunteer, but are not sure if you can do it, talk to other members about sharing the task. Many groups have had two members sharing the Group Leader role.
Ideally, we would like to kick off the Autumn SWM as soon as possible after the summer break, so please get in touch as soon as possible. It would be great if we had our Group Leaders identified by the first week in September so that group activities can start before the end of the month, while we still have reasonably bright evenings.
Group leaders don’t have be experts in any aspect of photography. The only qualification required is enthusiasm and a desire to proactively contribute to the vibrance of the club.
As ever, it cannot start until the leaders are in place.
To volunteer to lead a group, send an email with your chosen project title and include a short description to swm@offshoot.ie
SWM Projects:
The project can be anything at all – macro, landscape, architecture, flowers, wildlife, street photography, water movement, painting with light, portraiture ……the list is endless. It doesn’t have to be an original project. It could be one you participated in previously or maybe one you didn’t get to.
Bob Acton (SWM co-ordinator).
IPF Shield Competition
Each year in November Offshoot submits two panels of images for the Irish Photographic Federation (IPF) National Shield Competition – one monochrome and one colour. This competition is intended for club members who do not hold a photographic diploma or degree, an IPF Associateship or Fellowship or an IPF Medal.
So having told you who cannot apply we are seeking images from all other members for both the monochrome and colour panels. Please send us as many of your images as possible in both categories.
We are starting early this year in the hope that we can give members some feedback. So go back through your library of images for the good ones we know you have as well as checking on Flickr, Facebook and all social media. Send them to us via the Dropbox link below as jpgs at least 2000 pixels on their longest side for consideration.
When you have decided what images you would like to submit, please upload them to this Dropbox link having named your files in the following format:
Membership No – Image Title eg 808 – The Bay at Dawn
Next Club Outing – EMO Court – 13 September
The next club outing will be to EMO Court House on 13 September meeting there at 10am – full details will be emailed shortly.
A reminder about the weekend away to Connemara on 07 to 09 November – if you are interested there are still rooms available. Contact the Outings Team for details.
Please Collect Your Exhibition Images
After a very well received exhibition at the DLR Lexicon, most members have by now collected their prints. However a few remain to be claimed.
If you have not yet done so please collect your images at our 08 September meeting at the school or contact Emily Gallagher or Sara Hanley to agree alternative arrangements. |
