On Monday we introduce you to Suzanne Behan who will talk to us about The 50 Francis Street Photographer.
When photographer John Walsh, a well-known chronicler of ordinary life in the Liberties, died in 1999, his granddaughter Suzanne Behan uncovered decades worth of negatives going right back to the Forties. Not just a jobbing photographer, John was passionate about recording the lives and people around him. Of the roughly 100,000 negatives, some feature important family occasions like weddings and communions, cabaret stars and religious orders, but many more, taken in homes, schools and out on the streets, capture the pulse of everyday life in the Liberties.
Suzanne, a photographer herself, was recovering from cancer and had some time on her hands. She took a box of negatives from the shed in her mother’s garden and brought them to her own home for scanning. There she set up a Facebook page called ‘The 50 Francis Street Photographer’ to see if anyone could identify those featured in the photos. The response was overwhelming and soon she found herself reuniting people with their precious family photos, many of which had never been collected.

Please ensure that you pay by 28th February 2021. Payment can be made by PayPal at https://www.offshoot.ie/subs or bank transfer. Details of the OffShoot BIC and IBAN are in the reminder sent. (Check your Junk Email Folder if you did not get an email.)

Shoot With Me (SWM)
With very few exceptions everyone got a place in a chosen group. The spread of interest has been widespread across the themes resulting in well over 70% of members getting their first choice.
A very small number of members whose selections we could not fill have already been notified. Everyone else in the Shoot-With-Me Programme will be contacted by their group leaders (many have been contacted already).
If anyone does not hear directly from a group leader by Monday morning please contact George at swm@offshoot.ie.
Learn With Me (LWM)
A big thank you to all who have completed the questionnaire. None of us knows everything about photography and for most of us, the best way to learn is by putting what we have been shown into practice.
Our plan is to run workshops outside our normal meeting rota. We have a lot of feedback and we are currently working to plan some activities as a result.

What do we all look like?
Having all gone virtual we miss the personal interaction and sometimes it’s difficult to fit a face to a name? We are exploring how we can expand the website to solve this. Watch this space we haven't forgotten.
