News

Last Monday Night

Last Monday we had a very enjoyable and impressive first Shoot With Me Showcase covering a broad range of topics and subjects. Well done to all who participated and to the group leaders – everyone did very well!

Next Monday Night

Next Monday we will have the second SWM Showcase with another six groups showing us the results of their efforts over recent months. We can be sure that this will allow us to close out our 2021 programme on a high!

We can enjoy it all again next year. However, we will need 12 group leaders for our Spring SWM. If you haven’t considered leading a group, ask yourself why not?

It’s a very enjoyable way to contribute to making a success of this unique and important club activity.

Thanks to Outgoing Committee

Following our recent AGM, a number of our committee will be stepping down at the end of 2021. So a big thanks to Mike Smith our outgoing Chair who has led the club so well during a difficult year. Thanks also to Russell Burke who retires after serving five years on the committee, George Balmer who has led our SWM activities so well, Sylvia Hick who has managed our Outings process with considerable energy and Barry Dillon who ran our IPF activities during the year.

The remaining 2021 members (Gerry Donovan, Katherine O’Boyle and Ian Gemmell) will be around again in 2022 working with our new Chair, Emily Gallagher.

Thanks to the 2021 Committee for a great year in difficult circumstances and best of luck to the incoming 2022 committee.

Christmas Images

Our first Monday Night meeting of 2022 will be on 10th January and it will feature the Christmas Images taken by our members. So keep your camera handing over the coming weeks to capture some shots of the festive season.

Outings

Even if you are suffering from Zoom fatigue and are missing human interaction, you can still join other members on outings. Outings are a great way to socialise with fellow members, visit new places and even take some photographs – so do come and join us!

Look at the schedule at the end of this Newsletter for Outings…..

Please note that registration for Outings will be continued to facilitate contact tracing in the event that we experience a Covid outbreak with the group.

Accessing Video Recordings of Meetings

You can access recordings of past Zoom meetings in the Videos section of the Member's Area at https://www.offshoot.ie/member-area/. You will need to log in to the website to see the content of this section of the site.

Every member has a log in to the site. If you don't remember your login details go to https://www.offshoot.ie/login/ and select the 'Forgot your password?' link. Enter the email address you received this newsletter with and reset your password. Once you've reset your password you can log in and catch up on speakers you missed. Happy catching up!

Club Competitions

Our next competition will be a Monochrome competition with an OPEN theme – which means using differing amounts of light instead of different colours to capture and represent images. It includes black and white but can also be achieved using varying shades of other colours like sepia or cyan.

You can interpret the theme as you wish from landscapes to people and anything in between. Street and architecture also work well in monochrome.

Our judge for this competition is Gerry Andrews FIPF, ARPS, AFIAP from Dublin Camera Club. (http://www.gerryandrews.com/ and https://www.flickr.com/photos/gerryandrews/)

Please submit your images by Midnight, Sunday 6th February 2022. Judging will take place on Monday 14th February 2022.

As usual, save your images in JPEG format and name them with your Level Number, Membership Number and Image Title:

L2_001_Mono image.jpg

You may submit two images for this competition to ensure everyone receives useful feedback in a reasonable timeframe.
