News

Next Monday Night

Club member Liam Haines will take us through a collection of images from numerous news events, sporting events and unusual shots culled from various sources.

The object is to invite the audience to discuss and learn which images have the greatest impact; to speculate on which aperture was used, what speed, POV etc.

Last Monday Night

Last Monday night Mary Louise Revese gave us a very interesting talk on Abstract Photography. Hopefully, everyone is fully inspired and has many new ideas for their competition entries.

Return to Physical Meetings

The committee has now decided to work towards having our first physical meeting post-pandemic on 4th April in St Brigid’s School.

We will keep you advised on how these plans are developing over the next few weeks.

Our Club Exhibition is Back

The Annual Club Exhibition will return this year and will be held in the DLR Lexicon over 6 weeks commencing 12th July 2022. You may now submit your images for the exhibition  via this dropbox link:

https://www.dropbox.com/request/QiiYhKLD9LcFcbXbSfeD

The closing date for submission of images is 30th April – so now is a great time to start looking through your images to find something you might like to submit or go and shoot something new if you wish. It is likely that we will be able to accommodate two images from each member.

The launch party has now been booked for the first night of the exhibition (12th July) in Hardys Bar in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire – so put the date in your calendar now!

The Theme of the Week

This week's theme is another element of photography: Pattern

Pattern photography is the concept of integrating a repetition of elements into your photographs. Some close-up or macro patterns might be good subjects for our upcoming Abstract competition.

Competitions

Next Club Competition – “Abstract”

Our next competition will be under the theme of ‘Abstract’.

According to Wikipedia, Abstract Photography, sometimes called non-objective, experimental or conceptual photography, is a way of depicting a visual image that does not have an immediate association with the object world and that has been created through the use of camera equipment, processes or materials. An abstract photograph may isolate a fragment of a natural scene in order to remove the inherent context from the viewer, it may be purposely staged to create a seemingly unreal appearance from real objects or it may involve the use of colour, light, shadow, texture, shape and/or form to convey feeling, sensation or impression.

However there has never been an exact definition of what exactly “abstract photography” is: similar to abstract art, it offers many different ways of looking at a subject. There are no rules and so abstract photography is exactly what the viewer makes of it, and it can hold many different interpretations, views and opinions.

You can interpret the theme as you wish from landscapes to people and anything in between. We are looking forward to seeing the different interpretations.
