Outline of Our 2023 Club Programme

Last Monday the Club Committee presented an outline of the programme of activities being planned for 2023. The programme continues many of our successful and popular activities and also includes a few innovations.

Most of our Monday night meetings will be in person sessions with just a few Zoom sessions to take advantage of some distant presenters.

The programme will include more practical sessions and workshops as requested by you, our members, activities for those getting started in photography and improved supports for new members.

The following is a summary of the programme for 2023:

5 Club Competitions

February – Theme OPEN (see details below)

April – Theme NATURAL WORLD

June – Theme MOVEMENT

September – Theme MONO

November – Theme STREET

Two programmes of SWM will run in the Spring and the Autumn. Each programme will accommodate about 70 members

A comprehensive programme of Outings will be organised throughout the year covering weekend and midweek sessions. During the summer, Monday evening outings will be offered.

IPF Competitions

The Club will take part in the two IPF club competitions – The National Club Competition in late Spring and the National Shield Competition in Autumn.

2023 Photo Challenge

This is a new initiative intended to encourage members to pursue a focused theme of photography during 2023. Details are set out below in this Newsletter.

Other Activities

We will also have a number of our activities to inspire us and to enjoy including a Car Boot Sale, the Summer BBQ, our Annual Exhibition, a Quiz Night, the 2023 AGM and, of course, our Christmas social. In addition, it is planned to run a number of activities including some Learn With Me sessions to assist those starting out on their photography journey.

It is hoped to publish the full programme by end January/ early February.

New 2023 Photo Challenge (23PC) Launched

The 2023 Photo Challenge is intended to encourage members to pursue a focused theme of photography between now and next November. It is not a competition and you decide the standard of output you go for.

The Process – What you need to do to take part:

  1. Develop a Statement of Challenge Theme that describes the purpose and approach for your challenge
  2. Produce 6 to 10 images that illustrate your Theme to a standard that satisfies you, or
  3. Produce a 5 to 7 minute AV of your images
  4. There are no restrictions on how, when or where you capture your images

Timetable:

Feb 1: Confirm your participation and advise your Theme to the 23PC Coordinator (Gerry Donovan) by email to 23pc@offshoot.ie

End May: Interim progress review

End Nov: Present your final panel of images / AV at a club meeting

Examples of the Challenge Theme could include Macro, Irish Wildlife, Architecture, Transport, Portraiture etc to which you might add your own subset.

If you require any clarification or if you would like feedback on your proposed Theme please email 23pc@offshoot.ie

So give it a go and enjoy your photography!
