Next Monday – Tom Way

Next Monday evening we are going virtual again so there will be no meeting in the school. Our speaker is Tom Way who is recognised for his powerful portraiture of Africa’s large mammals. He has many awards including European Wildlife Photographer of the Year.

Tom is a true wildlife photographer and, as well as his big passion for the big five in Africa, he talks of penguins in the Falklands, Orangutans in Borneo, Blue Whales in Sri Lanka and the wildlife on your doorstep.

So, join us as we follow the steps of a wildlife photographer and be entertained and educated. We will send you a zoom link.

Last Monday Night

Paul Stanley of Dublin Camera Club gave us all information and advice on gaining Distinctions. He also explained that a distinction only follows your own quest for improvement. You learn so much in the process, so, if you haven’t already done so, give it a go.

The new 2023 Photo Challenge (23PC) Launched

The 2023 Photo Challenge is intended to encourage members to pursue a focused theme of photography between now and next November. It is not a competition; you decide the output standard you go for.

The Process – What you need to do to take part:

  1. Develop a Statement of Challenge Theme that describes the purpose and approach for your challenge
  2. Produce:
    1. 6 to 10 images that illustrate your Theme to a standard that satisfies you, or
    2.  5 to 7 minute-long AV of your images
  3. There are no restrictions on how, when or where you capture your images

Timetable:

1st February: Confirm your participation and advise your Theme to the 23PC Coordinator (Gerry Donovan) by email to 23pc@offshoot.ie

End May: Interim progress review

End November: Present your final panel of images / AV at a club meeting

Examples of the Challenge Theme could include Macro, Irish Wildlife, Architecture, Transport, Portraiture etc to which you might add your own subset.

If you require any clarification or if you would like feedback on your proposed Theme please email 23pc@offshoot.ie

So give it a go and enjoy your photography!

SWM Leaders Required

It is planned to get our Spring Shoot With Me activities up and running in February. To enable this to happen we need group leaders. If you would like to volunteer please email swm@offshoot.ie as soon as possible. We're still looking for 4 leaders!

Exhibition Photo Book

The Exhibition Photo Book is selling fast! It includes most of the images that were displayed at the Club Exhibition at DLR Lexicon during the summer.

You can buy a book by paying at the meeting with cash or prepay (we will then reserve your copy for you) by making an electronic bank transfer to the Offshoot bank account. Please email the Treasurer at treasurer@offshoot.ie for the bank account details and to confirm when you have made your payment.

The reprinted version of the book is now available. So if you would like to swap your already purchased copy, please bring it along next time you are at one of our meetings.
