This Monday – Photo Challenge
At the beginning of the year, a number of our members took on a personal challenge to photograph and present their image on a topic of their choice. On Monday, they will show this to us. These can be either as a set of photographs or an audiovisual presentation. There are two evenings, and this will be the first one. We can look forward to two inspiring evenings!
Last Monday – Club Landscape Competition
Last Monday, Peter Gordon (petergordonphotography.com) was our judge for our fifth competition in 2025, which had a theme of Landscape.
Peter is very well known for his skill in this medium, with numerous awards from the Irish Professional Photographers Association. He gave us a considered review of our submissions, providing a mixture of both positive and constructive feedback, focusing on the areas of composition, attention to detail and the many hazards in post-processing images. Overall, it was an engaging evening with a lot of interaction with the members.
Congratulations to all who entered and, in particular, to those placed and commended as set out below.

IPF Shield Competition
Each year in November, OffShoot submits two panels of images for the Irish Photographic Federation (IPF) National Shield Competition – one monochrome and one colour. This competition is intended for club members who do not hold a photographic diploma or degree, an IPF Associateship or Fellowship or an IPF Medal.
So, having told you who cannot apply, we are seeking images from all other members for both the monochrome and colour panels. Please send us as many of your images as possible in both categories.
We are starting early this year in the hope that we can give members some feedback. So go back through your library of images for the good ones we know you have as well as checking on Flickr, Facebook and all social media. Send them to us via the Dropbox link below as jpgs (at least 2000 pixels on their longest side) for consideration.
When you have decided what images you would like to submit, please upload them to this Dropbox Link, by the 15th October, having named your files in the following format:
Membership No – Image Title, eg 808 – The Bay at Dawn
The Deer Rut in the Phoenix Park on Sunday, 12th October
Today's Deer Rut outing has been postponed until Sunday. The Simon Community’s 5K run was delayed due to Storm Amy and is now taking place on Saturday, which has resulted in road closures in Phoenix Park.
We have therefore decided to postpone our outing until the following day.
The time and meeting point remain the same – 9 am, Furze Road.
Same but Different - Learning from Each Other
This is an initiative we are running from now until Monday, 27th October, with results to be shown in the club on 3rd November.
The idea is that we can learn by seeing other people’s approaches to processing the same image. It will become even more relevant for you if you have tried to process some of the photos yourself, as you’ll be comparing them directly to your own approach and thought process.
We are making 12 photographs available for people to process in whatever way they think is best. You can do as few or as many as you wish.
