News

Our speaker for next Monday is Michael Finn who as a wedding, portrait and wildlife photographer has operated from Tallaght since 1986. Over the years, he has concentrated more on his wildlife photography and has been invited to participate in several projects in Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda), India and the United States.

Details of the Zoom meeting will be circulated before the meeting so watch out for them closer to the time.

Weekly Flickr Theme: Red

Red is a bold colour that demands attention, that provokes a response.

It is symbolic of danger, of love, of passion. It is the colour of destruction and of warmth.

When used in portraiture it draws attention to the subject. It can be in a garment or an object associated with the sitter in the image, or in red lips.

In landscapes, we are drawn to red sunrises and sunsets, fields of poppies, a red sail on a boat,or a red person moving through the landscape.

In food there are many possibilities with red, from apples to watermelons to strawberries; Red apples tend to have the greatest symbolism.

Abstract images with red can work very well too.

When working with red in an image it’s important also to be aware of other colours in the image. The complementary colour of red is green. Photographing a red subject in a green environment can be very impactful.

How about trying two quite different genres with red, perhaps a portrait and a flower, or a landscape and a still life, an abstract and a street scene.

Be bold, be brave, be dramatic, be passionate, but most of all, have fun!
