Last Monday Night

Last Monday we enjoyed Daniel Bridge’s presentation on his Top Ten Photography Tips illustrated by some fine examples of his own camera craft. He added Tip Number Eleven – Enjoy Your Photography! – a fitting introduction to next Monday night…

Next Monday Night

Next Monday, 13th September, we will present our Summer Showcase. This will feature shots taken by our members over the summer period. It can include pictures taken during any of the Club Outings or photos taken when you were out on a solo expedition!

Please submit up to Three Images and upload them to the Dropbox folder below by Sunday 12th September.

Please note that this is not a competition.

IPF National Shield Autumn 2021

The deadline for submissions for the IPF National Shield has now been notified as 29th October. We would now ask members to submit their images by the end of September to allow for the preparation of the Club's panels.

So members are now asked to gather images together for submission. A member can enter 5 colour images and 5 mono images for consideration.

Please look back over your current and back catalogue to choose your images. The images can be from any time period and any genre.

After the high standard set at the 2021 Club Championships, we look forward to seeing your submission.

Shoot With Me – Autumn 2021 Programme

Many thanks to the twelve club members who have volunteered to lead our groups in the Autumn Programme.

Once again the themes chosen are both interesting and challenging and give us another opportunity to enjoy our photography.

Full details of the programme and how to apply for a place in a group will be sent by e-mail to each club member during next week.

Chat Moderators Wanted

As most of you will know, Noreen, Marie and Richard have been doing the Zoom chat moderation since we went to virtual club meetings. They are happy to continue this role, but it would be good to get one or two other members involved to share out the rota. The work involved is minimal. If you would be willing to put your name forward please email secretary@offshoot.ie and we will contact you.

OffShoot Succession

At our AGM in December, we will appoint members to steer OffShoot through 2022 and we are sending out a call, not just for volunteers (because we always need them), but for members of the committee.

OffShoot is a thriving club and our members are a great bunch of people and we want to look to the future and develop. But there are two impediments; youth and gender. Without a proper youth and gender balance Offshoot will be just a club managed by men and token women and that can’t be right.

This is your camera club and we have all sorts of roles; committees, subcommittees etc.; something for everybody willing to help. Everybody is important and it’s up to you how you want to help. Give it some thought and let us know.

THE AGM MUST NEITHER BE JUST A FORMALITY WITH POSITIONS ARRANGED BEFOREHAND NOR A SELECTION OF OFFICERS WHO HAVE ‘COME THROUGH THE RANKS. THIS IS FOR EVERYBODY.

This is your club so please give it some thought and let us know before 31st October 2021 if you would be prepared to take a role on the committee. Please indicate your interest to committee@offshoot.ie

Outings Restrictions

In line with the changes in government guidelines, the numbers limit on members attending outdoor events (Outings) will be effectively lifted from 1st July.

However, it is proposed that members registration for Outings will be continued to facilitate contact tracing in the event that we experience a Covid outbreak within the group.

Accessing Video Recordings of Meetings

You can access recordings of past Zoom meetings in the Videos section of the Member's Area at https://www.offshoot.ie/member-area/. You will need to log in to the website to see the content of this section of the site.

Every member has a log in to the site. If you don't remember your login details go to https://www.offshoot.ie/login/ and select the 'Forgot your password?' link. Enter the email address you received this newsletter with and reset your password. Once you've reset your password you can log in and catch up on speakers you missed. Happy catching up!

Club Competitions

Next Club Competition – Smartphone Photography

We expect a novel approach to this Smartphone Photography competition. The theme for the competition is OPEN.

So entries can be quirky or otherwise – from a boiled egg to a lobster, a snowdrop to a sunflower, a cottage to a mansion – the list is endless. So get creative and show what you can do.

To get the best out of this competition, make sure you always carry your smartphone so you don’t miss an opportunity for a good shot. You never know what’s around the corner – expect the unexpected.

Post-processing is acceptable.

You may submit two Smartphone images only for the competition. The images must have been taken within the past 12 months.

The Closing Date for this competition is Midnight, Sunday 19 September and judging will take place on Monday 27 September 2021. The judge for this competition is Joe Doyle (Malahide CC).

As usual, save your images in JPEG format, and name them with your Level Number, Membership Number and image title. i.e. L2-987-Selfie.jpg
