We believe that the image is everything!

News

Last Monday Night

Last week we had Joe Doyle (Malahide CC) as the judge of our competition "Smartphone Photography". It was great to see the varied techniques used by our members with their mobile phones and the great standard of images. Congratulations to all the winners. Results are published on the club's website and can be linked to lower down in the Newsletter.

Next Monday Night

Next week we do not have a virtual meeting and our plan is to have an outing to the Graveyard in Glendalough where we hope to:

(a) do light-painting in the graveyard so members need to bring a torch and any props that they think might be useful; and

(b) as there is a waning moon at that time of the month, we also hope to try and get some star trails after the light painting provided the sky is pretty clear of course.

Full details can be seen by following the link in the What's On section.

IPF National Shield Autumn 2021

The deadline for submissions for the IPF National Shield has now been notified as 29th October.

We asked members to submit their images by the 30th of September to allow for the preparation of the Club's panels. We have now closed off the uploads and will proceed with selecting and building the panels.

Thanks to all for contributing your images.

Shoot With Me – Update

Our group leaders have received the names and email addresses of the members of their individual groups and the leaders should have made contact with their groups and set up their chosen communications methods. So if you have applied for a place you will be contacted by your Group Leader.

If you have any questions or if you don’t hear from anyone by the end of next week please contact either George or Emily at swm@offshoot.ie

Congratulations

Congratulations to Deirdre Irwin who had her photo of a White-tailed Sea Eagle was featured on RTE1 television and who was interviewed live on RTE TV on 28th September at 5 pm speaking about extinct birds.

Member Survey

Every year we ask members how we are doing, what we are not doing and what they would like us to do. Covid has played havoc with usual plans and activities and now we are coming back. It is so much better to air our views in person on a regular basis but, alas, this has not been possible so your comments are much more valuable.

Thanks to all that have responded to the 2021 survey. For those that have not yet had a chance please, oh please, give it 5 minutes of your time.

Please complete the survey at: https://www.offshoot.ie/member-survey/

OffShoot Succession

We asked you in an email and last two newsletters for volunteers to serve on the committee in 2022. Sadly, the response has been disappointing

OffShoot is a thriving club and our members are a great bunch of people and we want to look to the future and develop. This is your camera club and we have all sorts of roles; committees, subcommittees etc.; something for everybody willing to help. Everybody is important and it’s up to you how you want to help. Give it some thought and let us know.

THE AGM MUST NEITHER BE JUST A FORMALITY WITH POSITIONS ARRANGED BEFOREHAND NOR A SELECTION OF OFFICERS WHO HAVE ‘COME THROUGH THE RANKS’. THIS IS FOR EVERYBODY.

Please give it some thought and let us know before 31st October 2021 if you would be prepared to take a role on the committee. Please indicate your interest to committee@offshoot.ie.

Club Competitions

Our next competition is called "Autumn Colours”

You can interpret the theme as you wish from falling leaf colour, portraits in the landscape, shooting low down to capture fungi and other natural wonders, or wide-angle to capture a more expansive landscape. The possibilities are endless so use your imagination and experiment. You can use almost any lens from a Macro to a Zoom so there’s something for everybody.

Our Judge for this competition is Eamon and Christine O'Daly from The Outdoor Studio.
