Next Monday Night – Shoot With Me Showcase #1

This Monday is the first of our ever-popular Shoot With Me Showcases so put the 23rd May in your calendar.

While you are doing this remember the 30th May is our second SWM Showcases - be sure not to miss either.

These meetings will be hybrid meetings with a remote joining Zoom option.

Last Monday Night – Portraits

Last Monday Olive Gaughan and her team provided a captivating discussion on Portraits showing us many different styles and giving us an insight into the thought processes behind them. It was definitely one of the best sessions we have had this year. Well done to all.

Our Club Exhibition is Back

The Annual Club Exhibition returns this year and will be held in the DLR Lexicon over 6 weeks commencing 12th July 2022. You may now submit your images for the exhibition via this Dropbox link:

https://www.dropbox.com/request/QiiYhKLD9LcFcbXbSfeD

The closing date for submission of images is 31 st May which is only 10 days away – so it is now time to select your image and submit your images for the Exhibition. It is likely that we will be able to accommodate two images from each member.

The launch party has been booked for the first night of the exhibition (12th July) in Hardys Bar in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire – so put the date in your calendar now!!

The Summer Barbeque

You will note in the schedule of events below that the Summer BBQ is on 13th June.

Can you please:

  • Put it in your diary, and
  • Let us know at secretary@offshoot.ie if you will be attending so that we can get an idea of how many to cater for.

The Theme of the Week

This week's theme is: A different view/vantage point

Most of our photos are taken at the eye level of the photographer, while she/he is standing. But often there is a much more interesting /dramatic shot of the subject to be had by simply changing your point of view.  Getting down low makes your subject look taller, and more dominant and can replace the cluttered background with a clear sky background.  A birdseye view from above is often unexpected and again changes the background. This viewpoint also changes the form of the subject which can result in a more thought-provoking shot.

Next Club Competition – 'People in Images'

The theme of our next Club Competition is People in Images which you can interpret any way you like as long as there is a person or people in the image. The person/people don’t have to be the subject but can be there for scale, perspective or of course the main subject. Images can be portraits, street, architecture, landscape, mono or colour – it is up to you to have fun with the theme!

For Level 2 and Level 3, the image must have been taken with a 35mm or 50mm full-frame equivalent focal length.

For all levels, to encourage continuous improvement and to get members out taking photos, all images should have been taken within the last year.

As usual please save your images in JPEG format and name them with your Level Number, Membership Number and Image Title:
