On Monday, 12th May, the competition was a little different to normal in that the members were the judges.
A total of 32 photographs were submitted from members across all levels. The photographs were printed and displayed in the club, and after about 40 minutes, each member submitted the four images they thought were best, ranked from first to fourth via a web-based form from their phones.
The results of these votes were counted, 8 points for a 1st rating, 4 points for a 2nd rating, 2 points for a 3rd and 1 point for a 4th.
The members were not aware of the levels of the photographers.
After collating the results (via software) a PowerPoint presentation was generated with the highest-scoring photographs from Level 1 and Level 2, respectively as well as the top five scoring photographs from across all levels.
This was a relatively novel method of judging, but the intent was to get members used to thinking and judging photographs themselves rather than “just being judged”.
