Club Outing – Christmas Lights

14 December 2023 | Club Outings

On Saturday 9th December, 8 members met in River Bar at the corner of D’Olier Street and Burgh Quay. The original plan had been to meet outside but as a number of people were delayed by a Pro-Palestinian march, and the wind was strong and bitter it was felt that retreating indoors was the only sensible course of action.

Once everyone arrived it was decided to head towards the Ha’penny Bridge. There we were rewarded with a lovely sunset, a bustling atmosphere and the colourful lights of Millennium Bridge.

From here most of the group decided to head back down the river towards the Samuel Beckett Bridge, while one member took the scenic route via Central Plaza and Trinity College.

The Samuel Beckett Bridge was bedecked in turquoise and pink lights, moving in circular and fanned formations, which although not festive were certainly impressive. By this time the light show at the Custom House had started and it was truly amazing. The beautiful building became a screen for projections which started with stars and colourful planets and went on to include unicorns, the rolling waves of the sea and even a giant red octopus.

By now the cold was catching up with us so we decided to retire to the nearby Workshop Pub for a Christmas drink.

Everyone agreed that despite the chilly conditions it was a very enjoyable outing and a great way to round off the year.

Merry Christmas
