Club Outing – Christmas Lights 2025

30 December 2025 | Club Outings

The annual OffShoot Christmas Lights outing took place on 13th December. A group of fourteen members gathered just outside Dublin Castle, with the focus of attention being Dublin City Council’s Winter Lights Festival. This consisted of 25 locations throughout Dublin, where iconic bridges and buildings were lit up with a variety of light installations.

We started in the Dublin Castle courtyard, where a spiralled array of moving light rods, Flux, by the French artistic collective SCALE, provided many opportunities for both long- and short-exposure photographs.

Some of the group went into the Chapel which had an amazing crib complete with full street scenes and angels suspended overhead the length of the aisle. Others moved towards the quays via Meeting House Square, where a jazz brass band and the public provided some excellent street photography opportunities.

On the way, we passed through Temple Bar, with its many pubs and restaurants brightly lit in festive displays. Another group took a route through Parliament Street with its trees wrapped in lights. At some point everyone tried their luck photographing the River Liffey and its many bridges. The general consensus was that it was difficult to capture the saturation of the lights on the Millennium Bridge.

Most people then moved on to the GPO, which was illuminated by digital projections of artworks by a number of leading national and international digital artists.

The Winter Lights Festival is getting better year on year and provides ample opportunities for every type of photography.
