On Saturday, May 10th, 5 members attended the Club outing to the Black Castle in Wicklow. Two of these members were new and on their first outing. Lots of advice and local knowledge were shared amongst the members.
The Black Castle and Wicklow Harbour close by can offer numerous picturesque opportunities, particularly during the golden hour.
However, a 10 am start and weather that was almost Mediterranean with bright sunshine, blue skies and no cloud provided a challenge. A challenge that Offshoot members do not shy away from.
The 12th-century castle’s ruins, situated at the top of a cliff, provided a unique backdrop for landscape, architectural photography, and long exposure photography. Members used the cliff height and the beach to shoot from, capturing some lovely images. The harbour, its boats, lighthouse and numerous murals provided additional subjects of interest.
Most of the members ventured up to the Glen Cliff Walk only 5 minutes away. The walk was extremely busy at this stage, and it was here we concluded a very enjoyable outing. This walk can also provide unique opportunities including Seal Pups in July/August and of course the Wicklow Head Lighthouse. So well worth a visit again when sunrise is a little later in the morning and less people on the track.
Two members ventured into town for coffee whilst two more stayed and walked the harbour in anticipation of Sammy the Seal making an appearance. Sadly, he did not.
