Club Outing – Wild Ireland

16 June 2025 | Club Outings

On Saturday, 7th June, 10 members travelled to Burnfoot in Donegal to visit Wild Ireland.

The sanctuary was established several years ago by Killian McLoughlin to house animals that would have inhabited our woodlands in the past. All of the animals there have been rescued from various countries where they were kept in deplorable conditions.

We arrived at 11 am and enjoyed a coffee while we waited for a light shower to pass. We spent the next few hours wandering around photographing the wallabies and deer, the wild boar and red foxes, the raccoons and lynx, and of course, the wonderful brown bears and wolves.

We took a break for lunch in the on-site café, which has a delicious menu.

We then made our way back to the wolf and bear enclosures in time to watch them being fed. We left around 3:30 pm and were home in under four hours.

It was a great way to spend the day, and Wild Ireland is a sanctuary that is extremely well-run and definitely worth supporting.

A return visit is almost certainly on the cards.
