SWM May 2017 – Light Trails

May 26, 2017 | Shoot With Me

Our group wanted to try photographing light trails. We learnt the best time to get good shots is the blue hour just after sunset. We found a good location on the bridge above the Dundrum exit of the M50 (Blackglen Road link: https://goo.gl/maps/yvcDo1bBW442).

After a couple of visits there we decided to try and get some trails in town with lit buildings as background around Samuel Beckett Bridge. A problem here was that traffic was so slow and infrequent that many shots had only partial trails. However if you stacked several of these and used the “lighten” blend mode you could add all the partial light trails to a single shot.

It was fun to see how excited people could get on spotting an approaching bus or ambulance! The photo with the church is in Rathfarnham Village but shot from Doddervalley Park (link: https://goo.gl/maps/nQjqizCULZn).

Thanks to all participants for their patience and perseverance.
