Last Monday Night

A big thanks to Steve Crozier and Richard Byrne for their tips and tricks as applied to studio photography and model posing.  You will have a chance to practice on Monday night 10th February. Steve and Richard have made available the slides from that night which can be accessed by clicking here.

You can also watch the video further down the Newsletter on how to pose hands.

Next Monday Night.

This Monday we have the judging for the first competition of the year. It will be fascinating to see what people thought were amongst their best photos of last year. Should be an interesting evening.

The judge for this week’s competition will be Iñaki Hernández-Lasa. You can see examples of his photography at https://www.facebook.com/inaki.hernandezlasa.31

Annual Exhibition

The OffShoot Exhibition will once again be in Deans Grange Library from 5th May until 14th June.  This excellent opportunity to show the fruits of our photographic labours to the world, and gain good publicity for the Club, is one which we should all avail of if possible.

The exhibition is open to ALL members, it is not competitive, and is a great chance to have one or two of our favourite images expertly printed and framed for our walls at home, or for a gift.  The cost per picture in a 21” X 17” white frame is €30, which is a very heavily discounted price for the exhibition only.   Each member may submit up to two images for the exhibition and we guarantee to display at least one, depending on the number of entries.

When choosing your images please be mindful that the exhibition is in a family library.

Like last year our plan is to exhibit 100 images, but as space limitations restrict us to displaying only 50 images at a time, we shall again show them in two batches, with the change taking place after three weeks.

Images may be submitted from now up to 12th April.

Please use the following format for your image file name:--       exhibition.your name.title,

You may submit your images by going to: https://www.dropbox.com/request/9bNDicu71JFLXL1W4eHx

There really is no prize for being last, so please please submit your images early to ensure you are not disappointed, as our limit is 100 images.

There will be a party in the Grange pub across the road on the night of the opening and all members and guests will be welcome.

If you have any queries, please speak to Dave or Tony.

We're looking forward to receiving your images

Photography Exhibition: Irish Butterflies, by Robbie O’Leary AIPF

The Mill Theatre, Dundrum (http://www.milltheatre.ie/exhibition/robbie-oleary-photography-exhibition/)

The exhibition will run from February 7th to April 15th 2020

What is this life if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare…..

The words of poet WH Davies best explain the purpose of this exhibition:  images of Irish butterflies. It offers a unique opportunity to come and admire the delicate beauty of these colourful native creatures and to wonder at the detailed and intricate patterns that set them apart as true symbols of the richness and fragility of our natural heritage. Symbols too of the Irish summer:  short-lived and unpredictable but to be savoured and appreciated, many of our butterfly species are increasingly threatened by climate change, urbanisation and habitat destruction.

An Outsiders Eye: Photographing 1950s Ireland – 15th February

An afternoon of talks and conversation (from 2pm to 4pm) in the National Museum of Ireland, inspired by the Ireland in Focus: Photographing the 1950s exhibition. This exhibition looks at rarely shown images from Henri Cartier-Bresson, Dorothea Lange, and Robert Cresswell, created during what is generally regarded as one of the most challenging decades in twentieth-century Ireland.

This short seminar brings the curator of the exhibition, Dr Fidelma Mullane, together with Dr Orla Fitzpatrick, Dr Dragana Jurisic and John Minihan to explore the Ireland of the 1950s that was depicted by Henri Cartier Bresson, Dorothea Lange and Robert Cresswell. The panel discussion, chaired by curator Valerie Connor, will also look at the photographer as an outsider and the relationship between the subject and the photographer. Ireland in Focus: Photographing the 1950s

In the National Museum of Ireland. The exhibition seeks to highlight the way in which three photographers, from France and North America, saw and portrayed Ireland of the 1950s, through the places they visited and the people they photographed.
