Shoot With Me

A number of members have volunteered to be Group Leaders in our first SWM of 2022.

We still need a few more to meet our target of 12 that will allow us to get the SWM up and running at the start of February. If not having a suitable group theme is preventing you from volunteering, check out this list

of 328 photographic themes. 328 Photography Themes: A List Of Themes To Photograph | Icon Photography School (photographyicon.com)

Why not select one that you would like to try, learn or improve? Having selected a theme for your group, just send an email with your name, theme title and

brief theme description to swm@offshoot.ie

Your support will allow us to kick-off SWM on schedule in early February.

You can see a list of previous topics here.

Interesting talks on the Internet

The RPS (Royal Photographic Society) has published a list of online talks which may be of interest to our members. Check out the topics here.

Topics include amongst others "The Art of Creative Composition - Simon Ellingworth" and "Smartphone Photography - Jo Bradford".

Please note these are not free and will require a fee to be paid to attend.

Accessing Video Recordings of Meetings

Club Competitions

Our next competition will be a Monochrome competition with an "OPEN" theme, which means utilising differing amounts of light instead of different colours to capture and represent images.  It includes black and white but can be achieved using varying shades of other colours like sepia or cyan.

You can interpret the theme as you wish from Landscapes to People and anything in between. Street and Architecture also work well in monochrome.

Our judge for this competition is Gerry Andrews FIPF, ARPS, AFIAP from Dublin Camera Club

This Week's Flickr Theme

This is not a competition rather an opportunity to learn a bit about an area of photography or try a different type of photography. The photo selected each week can be picked because it's technically excellent or equally because it's unusual, funny, creative or thought-provoking.

To enter your shots just upload from your Flickr page to the OffShoot Flickr page before 7 PM the following Friday. Please title your shot with the theme of the week + your own title.

Wishing you an enjoyable and educational 2022 from the Flickr theme pickers.

For those who may not have engaged with this yet here's how it works. Each week a theme/topic is set.

During the week you shoot or process an image in that theme. and load it on the Flickr site. One image will be selected as the "theme pic of the week" and published in the following week's newsletter.

Why bother? The theme pic gives you an opportunity to explore and try out many different styles and types of photography. It increases the variety of images on our site and is an excellent opportunity to expand your creativity and photography skills and you get your picture in the weekly newsletter!

This week's theme is "Shadows"

We are constantly told that photography is about seeing the light and shooting the light. Often it is easier to see the shadows where the light hasn't reached or has only partially reached. Shadows are objects we are familiar with and are perhaps easier to see and compose. Shadows provide shape, form, texture, mood and can even be the main subject of the photograph
