Some people met at the Navy Café which overlooks the beach and after refreshments made their way down to the sand. Others went straight to the main enclosure to soak up the pre-race atmosphere.
We were lucky enough to have an afternoon of sunshine and cloud with the rain holding off for the evening. This meant everyone could enjoy the excitement that goes with the event.
There were six races in total, three at 6 furlongs and three at 7 furlongs so between that and the horses cantering to the starting stalls we had plenty of opportunities to try different compositions and shutter speeds. By the nature of the racing being on the beach it meant it was challenging everyone to adapt quickly and creatively to the conditions.
A large portion of the spectators along the course seemed to be photographers, with the real race goers staying beside the finish line and totes. At the conclusion everyone came away happy with some good, and in some cases unexpected, shots.
