Club Outing – City Walk

3 May 2026 | Club Outings

With our trip to see the Bluebells looking very unlikely, as they still hadn’t shown their heads by the 7th April, we decided to postpone it for a while and do our City walk instead! Not as inspiring for our Nature lovers but at least the parks, gardens and buildings were ready and waiting!

We decided to meet on Merrion Square and that way we had options for a bit of variety- Georgian doors, Trinity college and its campus, Government buildings and its architecture, Stephens Green and all its colour and people. Then on to Kildare Street, the Museums and their interiors if the weather didn’t oblige!

There was just a small number on the morning but with a little bit of sun peeping through the four of us headed off in different directions! We found some lovely colourful doors away from the main square area and with a few long lenses through the railings we managed to capture a few spring flowers along with the imposing Government buildings! As the ‘House’ was empty over the Easter holidays we weren’t a cause for concern there, but trying to photograph the lovely copper roof on that infamous Security Hut was a very different matter!! They obviously confused us with some press photographers and we were quickly asked to leave!!

The rest of our stops were more welcoming, and the National Museum and National library had some lovely detail in their domed ceilings, and mosaic floors. Trinity college however wasn’t at its usual best as there was a lot of railings up in preparation for the Trinity Ball at the weekend, so didn’t dwell too long there!

As is usual on our outings, we had our well-earned coffee in Costa, comparing notes and sharing some new finds on what is often considered a well-trodden path!
