Club Outing – Dun Laoghaire

7 June 2025 | Club Outings

On 24th May, in preparation for the next photo competition in Mono, the Outings Committee selected Dun Laoghaire as the venue for our outing on Saturday 24th May 2025 and we suggested members could change their camera’s setting to Monochrome to see what the image would be like in Black and White, while still retaining the original RAW files.

Twelve members met outside Hartley’s restaurant, and luckily, the cloudy, dark skies gave way to a warm sunny morning, which provided the freedom to explore the many photo locations that this town has to offer. The piers and lighthouses tempted some; others watched the marine activity as young and old prepared their boats for sailing.

In dock was an impressive French cruise ship Le Lapérouse, although this was dwarfed by a much larger ship anchored outside the harbour. The town’s library, the Lexicon, is a majestic five-story building and the largest and most visited public library in Ireland, with an average of 1,300 visitors daily. The large window on the top floor provides a panoramic view of Dun Laoghaire Harbour.

Equally impressive is The Mariner’s Church, dating from 1837 and is one of only two remaining churches of its kind in the world.
Some hours later, we reconvened in The People’s Garden for a welcome cuppa and a chat before the expected rain forecast materialised.
