On Tuesday, 25th February, eleven OffShoot members gathered in the Glendalough Upper Lake car park for a morning of exploration and photography. The weather gods were obliging, providing a clear, sunny morning, albeit with a bracing wind, which thankfully dropped to a gentle breeze soon after we started. The sun was low, so the light was very kind to the landscape.
There were many options available, including the Miners Village, where mining for Lead and Silver commenced in the 1850s and finally ended in 1925, the Trinity and Refert Churches from the eleventh century, St Kevin’s Cell, Poulanass waterfall and river and the Upper and Lower lakes.
The group split up to follow their chosen subjects. Some stayed in the general area of the Upper Lake and captured whatever presented itself others committed to the 30-minute hike to the Miner’s Village.
Everyone had returned to the Carpark by 12.30, where we chatted and availed of the excellent coffee and food provided by the local food wagon.
The consensus on the outing was that everyone had enjoyed themselves and had captured some potentially good images. Most people felt there were a lot of other photo opportunities left to explore in this area and looked forward to returning sometime in the future.
