OffShoot Photography Society We believe that the image is everything!

News

Last Monday we were all impressed by the presentation by David Garthwaite on his methodology to produce stunning mono Fine Art Architecture and Landscape images – much food for thought!

Next Monday Night

Liam Haines is well known to us for his entertaining presentations from his many trips. Next Monday, under the title “The Traveller: His images and Videos”, Liam will take us through more of his travels.

Critique Night – 28th June

“I’ve got this great image and I’m really pleased with it”. We’ve all said that at one time or another and, of course, if you like the image that’s the measure of satisfaction. But if you are like most of us you will have noted a distinct improvement in the quality of your images from the time you joined Offshoot to today. You have seen some spectacular images taken by other members and said to yourself, “I wish I could take shots like that”; and, of course, you can.  But, like most of us, you need a nudge or a bit of advice or a mere suggestion on how to improve.

Well, now’s your chance to submit an image you like and on 28th June our panel of experts will give you feedback on what would make your great image ‘pop’.

This is NOT a competition and your entry will be totally ANONYMOUS. So, send us your images by 23rd June to: https://www.dropbox.com/request/fYd6qSaJADJ5XxOXn726

IPF National Club Championships 2021

Last Sunday the IPF held the 2021 National Club Championships as a virtual event. Offshoot had submitted both a colour and a monochrome panel.

We were placed 6th in the Colour Section and 15th in the Monochrome section. Overall, we achieved 13th Place. Voting was tight and in fact, we were only one point short of 12th place.

Overall, those results are a creditable and solid performance for our club and is a better result than we achieved in this competition last year.

While the images achieved many good scores, I wish to commend the following three of our Photographers:

  1. Richard Boyle whose image achieved our highest score in the colour category of 55/60 for his image of ‘Phoenix Park Deer’. One judge scored it a maximum of 20/20 - Way to go Richard.
  2. Richard Byrne achieved our highest score in the mono category of 52/60 for his lovely portrait of ‘Sylvia’.
  3. Taryn Barling who on her first national competition with the club scored 51/60 for a mono image ‘The Leaf’.

I wish to thank all the photographers who submitted images to the selection process. I look forward to many good image submissions to our next IPF national competition.

Outing Restrictions

In line with the changes in government guidelines, the numbers limit on members attending outdoor events (Outings) will be effectively lifted from 01 July. However, it is proposed that members registration for Outings will be continued to facilitate contact tracing in the event that we experience a Covid outbreak within the group.

Details of the planned outings for July and August are published on the What's On section of the website and Newsletter.

Club Competitions

Our next competition is called "Anything Man-Made". From a screw to a skyscraper, from a ball to a bucket or a hamburger to a house, just about anything can become a subject for anything man-made so you can interpret the theme as broadly as you like.

You can use almost any lens from a Macro to a Zoom so there’s something for everybody.

Our Judge for this competition is Iñaki Hernandez-Lasa (FRPS-FIPF-AFIAP). Please see his website below.

http://ihlphotography.com

For this competition, we have to limit the number of entries to 2 per member, to make sure that everybody receives useful feedback, and that the judge gets finished at a reasonable hour!

Please submit your images, by midnight Sunday 18th July 2021.  Judging will take place, on Monday 26th July 2021.
