Club Outing – Birds on Bull Island

Bull Island is a low-lying, dune-covered, sand spit in the northern part of Dublin Bay. As a National Nature Reserve, it is a good place for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts. It is also popular with walkers and swimmers.

It is approx. 5 km long by 1km wide and contains a range of natural habitats including beaches, dunes, mud flats, grassland and salt marshes. The island was the countries first official bird sanctuary and in 1981 it achieved status as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

In addition to the wildlife, there are good views towards Killiney on one side and Howth on the other.

There is parking along Bull Wall roadway after crossing the wooden bridge and a good-sized compacted sand car park just after Happy Out Café.

We’ll meet at 10.00 am outside Happy Out Cafe. (https://maps.app.goo.gl/MGoYY1fc2NherUjB8)
